It seems Microsoft has attracted a web site increase of 299% to its Zune site on Christmas Day compared to last year. iTunes got six times that amount of traffic. Nintendo Wii was most popular by far in terms of Christmas gifts.

This got me thinking it’s well worth forethought on product launch times. The ability to predict when a product will be most successful in the market place is paramount. Surges in online shopping are bound to occur around seasonal holidays.

Actively thinking about when your target audience is  most likely to be online and thinking about a potential purchase could save you vast amounts of money on PPC campaigns and of course convert more sales.

Sound simple ? Well I wonder just how many companies are actively running marketing campaigns with no thought to launch dates?

Now that the Federal Trade Commission have cleared the merger with DoubleClick, I wonder what the impact will be on online advertising in general ? Microsoft were quick to purchase aQuantive.

With guidelines issued from the F.T.C  stating that web sites should be more open about personal information delivered in targeted advertising and opt-out options improved will the big players take any notice?

after SearchSpice recently posted on the ipod headphones leaking so much sound you don’t you your own MP3 player you can just listen to the person sat 3 rows ahead of you.

my mind quickly moved to air travel and my search for decent Noise Cancelling Headphones, I like the idea of losing myself in my choice of noise ..

Stop your frickin moaning and get on with your Job !!

Maybe it’s my age, maybe it was the Google Coolaid I drank, maybe it’s because I have looked at Google and thought they have so many Cool products, why do people beat on them so much..

So what’s the real issue, is it that the products are crap, the fact that they buy everything in their path or the fact that they can make you or break you, and that’s really what scares the crap out of you.

lets look at :
Adwords people bitched about smart pricing because of higher click prices, and people bitched that the arbitrage guys where destroying their market place, that the big industry players could just push the auction price above the little guy. yep all fair points I guess, but in my eyes Google brought out Smart pricing to combat the big boys and the arbitrage boys.

It’s systems not a perfect system, but at present its the best that they can offer you, so lets be happy that there is a PPC model. so that you can launch a New Site and get good traffic very very quickly.

Adsense, ok i’m banned from adsense, so I can’t really tell you if it’s cool or not cool these days, I know it empowered a lot of people to make more money than was ever possible. It also opened the gateway for bad people to make money BUT THAT’S NOT GOOGLES FAULT IT’S THE BAD PEOPLE and they do bad them, and again it’s a system. the best that they can do at the moment but I bet they will keep improving and banning the bad people !

and Finally :

Search Buying links lets face facts you are trying to mess with Google, so don’t get all pissy when they mess with you , when a site that is breaking the rules you bitch because it’s ranking and you bitch if people report sites for spamming the index, just for record I travelled to Redmond to give a speech on search spam amongst other things…

So the next time you want to bitch about Google think about life If MICROSOFT WAS YOUR ONLY OPTION.. and for the record I still believe that day will come :)
