The Next Big thing

I feel this could be massive and the Se’s are not going to like it,

A complete overhaul of the way in which people register domain names on the internet has been given the go-ahead in Paris. at present we have country level tld, but now business and cities can request their own TLDs, so TLDs such as .sco for Scotland, or .ldn for London, and .nyc for New York could be come place but I bet on .news, .porn .kids and so on will be the ones where the bidding on land grab will happen.

also domain names written in Asian, Arabic or other scripts, was also approved.

Matt Cutts Buzzzzzt SeoMoz

Man I hate it when Matt does it to me, but this time it was Rand, He posted What Google Doesn’t See CAN Hurt YouI hadn’t read the comments but I did my own quick check whilst eating lunch .. a Pork Pie actually by the time I had finished the Pie I had decide Rand was wrong and the site was cloaking or doing something silly with the way it serves pages, working a lot on large scale ASP / .net CMS system I see lots of odd things ;)

But I always check a few things, I identify myself as various spiders, use a slightly different variety of the SEO page tool and to see how the server responds, ibl’s etc etc and this server was well … misbehaving a little

Now the question I would be asking if I was Matt is why when I look at the page that is listed in your Sitemap XML from home computer I get a 301 but if I a GoogleBbot goes it gets a 404, shouldn’t you be serving the same content to everyone :) and lets say if I was Matt would I be digging a little into the Press Releases and the content on the database side ?

I not blaming Rand don’t get me wrong I’m sure he asked the owner first I mean in this day and age you really have to be careful cause Google is everywhere and knows everything… well 98%

Free wifi on Trains - crap

When I travel to London, I tend to use the Trains First Class so I can work, we get free internet I’m using my phone to connect at the moment, because the Free WiFi isn’t working again it’s so on and off

The other thing is the IP address I get is Polish !! go figure, anyway I just found a new game… It called mess with everyone on the train, while the wifi keeps coming on and off, I switch SEO for firefox on, set it to pull Pagerank and started searching with num set to 100 hehehe..

The funny thing is it took 10 minutes for Google to banned the IP address and now everyone is complaining to about the service, Me I just keep saying it’s Live.com is working fine for me.. ;) sorry Matt but this game is too funny..  but they should offer a decent service I paid 240 quid for this journey

Starbucks next see how long before I get kicked out of Google there as well.. oh the fun..

Wordpress Hosting

Wordpress Hosting recommended by Wordpress

I kinda just had a big argument with a client and I need to vent a little, after setting up a blog on Pair.com on my reseller account, the client rings me and asks which preferred wordpress hosting company did I chose. I asked “what did he mean2 and he pointed me to the wordpress hosting page, at which I laughed out loud.. yep a proper belly laugh, I told him that’s not a recommended list it’s an affiliate list they earn money from those links..

This is where the argument started I pointed out that “some will donate a portion of your fee back—so you can have a great host and support WordPress at the same time.“, It’s basically an affiliate deal, but the client knows best, and wants me to sign up to the host and setup the blog, I say ok, but it’s going to cost another $100 time and effort, or he can set it up and ftp the the site for free… which is what he decided to do.. I’m not going to name the host he went with, but guess what ? it all went wrong and now it’s my fault because it was my idea to use wordpress !! now they want to look at drupal.. I said good luck! and that he should complain to wordpress that their Wordpress Hosting deals aren’t that good !

HTC Diamond or Samsung F480 Tocco

HTC Diamond or Samsung F480 Tocco

With the onslaught of mobile phones flooding the market nowadays, it’s becoming more difficult to choose the phone that is right for you or in my case for my wife. I have narrowed it down to three possibilities so far, these are - The HTC Touch Diamond, Samsung U900 Soul and the Samsung F480 Tocco.

All three of the phones have fairly similar specs and all feature HSDPA for super fast internet connection. The HTC Touch Diamond is the only one with WiFi and Windows Mobile 6.1 capabilities, which is swaying me a little, but the Samsung’s both have 5 mega-pixel cameras compared to the HTC Touch Diamond’s 3.2 mega pixels.

The HTC Touch Diamond has an internal memory of 4GB, but both the Samsung phones can be upgraded to 8GB using the integrated microSD card slots. The Touch Diamond and the Samsung F480 both feature 2.8 inch touchscreens, and all of the phones have the normal Bluetooth connectivity and MP3/Video playback. So you see I’m in a bit of a conundrum, does a phone really need all those features? Maybe I should just let my wife decide. What do you think, which one would you choose?

Is Microsoft Disruptive

Disruptive Technology

Disruptive technology is a term which I first heard at a Microsoft event, which in turn made me dig a little deeper, basically it describes a new technology that unexpectedly knocks out an established technology.

The more I thought about it a few things hit home. Take VCR’s when I was a kid these were the latest gadget the 1 thing you couldn’t live without, roll forward and we now have SKY+ (TIVO). This weekend I took my old VHS video collection to the skip that had been taking up valuable storage space, then I sorted out my TV cabinet. I guess i could just live with SKY, an Onkyo Amp and a PS3 ( I have xbox360 elite and a Nintendo Wii as well), but no VHS or DVD recorder, I just don’t need them.. but with BBC iplayer, SKY Player movie rental site etc and a High end Microsoft Vista PC I could end up with a PC and an ONKYO amp.

But then my kids point out that I can get everything that I need on my laptop and Shure headphones or even on my Mobile Phone and that’s the crux here, Google has Android, which a possible disruptive technology. But I still think that Microsoft has a major edge here, just like Vista is the OS for Business and Home Users, and lets face facts here Microsoft learns fast, all the things that we asked for in adchamps 2007 were delivered in adchamps 2008. Then we have Live Cashback, now this is a Disruptive Technology and Google will have to look deep if LIVE cashback takes off, then you have Xbox would you use Live.com to get Xbox points, which you could download the latest Films or Games etc, lets face facts Microsoft has a lot more in its arsenal I reckon we will start to see the big guns come out to play this year

AdsSpy, Google Trends, Yahoo siteexplorer

I got an email from Gleb at seoquake asking me if I wanted a Demo (30 day free account of AdsSpy.com), seeming how I love free stuff I said yes and started to play..

DoshDosh has189 domains wow ok ..
Jimkarter.com 37 domains ok..
calacanis.com and Mahalo.com .. nodata .. pfffftt

Then I got thinking, about how we keep showing too much data, I bet web masters aren’t happy that I could list all the domains with their adsense code on, or deep drive in to the back links on Site Explorer to see if they have crossed linked it all up and then report them, or go and ask If I could have a link lol.. then Google trends opened a even bigger can of worms.. how much data are we going to allow to be given away, and how can we use or abuse that data ?
