Flipswap

Flipping phone woes…. why not swap it out with Flipswap ?

We just had a call from one of our SEO clients who was advising us they would be late for their appointment this afternoon. The reason for this coincides nicely with Dave’s previous post on the HTC Diamond Touch. The laptop they needed was back in their hotel room, simple you may think but not when your hotel room key card has been placed in the same pocket as your HTC Diamond. The phone rendered the magnetic hotel door key card useless, leaving the client calling reception from the hallway unable to get back into their room.

Im beginning to wonder if both Dave and the client shouldn’t be looking into Flipswap

Im not sure the phone deserves a “second life” but surely trading is the way to go rather than just placing it in a drawer somewhere. Flipswap  enables you to get paid for your old phone.

HTC Touch Diamond Bad points

1) it’s does not delete emails off the mail server when you empty deleted items. So when you get back to the office you still have to collect and delete the emails again..

2) it also destroys the information stored on Credit Cards and Room Keys.. just found out why!

Heads Up People watch your reputation

Only out of respect for Matt Cutts as a friend, I have played nice I didn’t do what I first thought about. Most people can easily setup a monitoring script, so when I see Tinyurl and loads of other redirectors like bit.ly, I get a notification, and then decide what to do:

if refer = bit.ly/2vmSAz

send TO 2 GIRLS ONE CUP ( NOT SAVE FOR WORK )

Else

SEND TO Davidnaylor article

EndIF

How many people would have wondered what the hell Matt was doing sending people to a porn site or worse :)

URL redirectors can always be bounced on again :) so my tip is use this feature in tinyurl

http://preview.tinyurl.com/6saqnd

At least the people can see where you are sending them !!!

Google’s new Feature or Bug

Recently I blogged about maybe links aren’t so important any more, I didn’t want to really give out the example I had found, but Richard Young and Myself where chatting about this early today, and I feel that google has created a Time Machine Bot :

Google Time machine

ok let me try to explain what I mean you will most probably punch holes in this one .. lol

In the real world companies that have traded for many many years build up a natural authority, I’m sure that there are many industries that we don’t know anything about but could recognise a brand, in the UK Singer is a massive sewing machine brand , Singer has been around for 150 years !, but I don’t do sewing I have never SEO’ed a sewing website but I’m brand aware God only knows why lol

possible hole punch, So why don’t singer rank for sewing machines .. ( www.singermachines.co.uk ).. if my theory is correct 150 years of trading and a good aged web presence it should .. so you tell me why it doesn’t ;)

but what about Cheese http://www.teddingtoncheese.co.uk been on the internet since 1999 look at what they looked like in 1999

or Fish take http://www.tropicalfishcentre.co.uk/ look what their site looked like 2000
and finally Bras take http://www.amplebosom.com/ they have been around since 2000

Now Im not saying that these sites shouldn’t be there, in fact anyone who has been trading online for 8 years plus, should have authority of some kind, maybe google just dipped into the past and found sites that where authoritative in their day and are still trading online today.. it’s just a thought ..

Fish Pedicure

Just looking through Google trends today and found that “fish pedicure” is upping on the search index. It’s the latest craze in Spa treatments apparently. I’ll be honest the prospect of having my feet nibbled by a tank of hungry carp doesn’t really appeal. Not to be scoffed at though this treatment is said to be one of the most effective ways to get dead skin off your feet.

Internet Trends

The current economic climate brings new challenges for all businesses. The media of course have latched on to the credit crunch oiling the wheels of panic. We have seen some noticeable changes within SEO too. Some clients have reduced PPC budgets whilst others have only just started a  PPC campaign. As house sales supposedly take a nose dive we notice a marked increase in web development enquiries for those people offering services to the home, enabling people to utilise the space they already have such as loft conversions.

People seemingly are making the most of their current living space and are choosing to do this whilst being energy efficient too.  Speaking to one of our hardware guys here he tells of customers chopping and changing their broadband deals, usually down to word of mouth, one service being better than another but with effectively little price difference at the end of the change.

The power of advertising remains strong and companies that haven’t looked into SEO before are now doing so as they realise its true potential. Those who advertise corporate gifts such as promotional mugs tell us it’s one of the most effective business gifts you can offer.
